    2. Evaluating your current position How are the principles of ESDGC reflected in your organisation?

    3. For each of the four sections: Evaluate your current position; Identify areas requiring action; Complete Action Plan – and submit to DCELLS by 31st October 2009; Take action; Monitor and evaluate impact.

    4. Hints and Tips before you start Adopt a whole organisation approach. Set up an ESDGC working group with senior management representation. Identify responsibility for updating action plan. Organise regular meetings to discuss action plan: monthly or at least quarterly for first year; track and record progress; identify gaps and challenges.

    5. Hints and Tips before you start Providers vary in size and are at different stages in addressing ESDGC: self evaluation will help you understand your position. You do not have to be performing well in everything: demonstrate awareness of strengths and areas for improvement; be honest and plan action to address gaps; develop a phased approach where appropriate; plan for continuous improvement.

    6. How to Evaluate All key requirement statements are combined into one overall Evaluation and Planning for Action Checklist to aid evaluation and planning. The Checklist forms the basis for your completed Action Plan. It will enable you to see where you are making the most improvements and where you need to improve at a glance.

    7. How to Evaluate Use a structured and systematic approach to evaluate your current position. Concentrate on one section at a time (Sections 1-4). Read the guidance within each section (background information etc) where necessary.

    8. How to Evaluate As a team, use the Checklist, and: Evaluate your current position against each of the key requirement statements; Determine whether appropriate first-hand, up-to-date evidence is easily available; Identify areas requiring action: This will form the basis of your ESDGC Action Plan which you will need to submit to DCELLS (Template: Appendix 1).

    10. Checklist Key:

    11. Commitment and Leadership Implementing a culture of ESDGC throughout the organisation: clear strategic direction and vision from senior management; involving all key internal and external stakeholders. Leaders and managers need to: be fully aware of, and apply the principles of ESDGC and ensure a culture of ESDGC is implemented throughout the entire organisation through effectively joining up all the common areas contained within the ESDGC Strategy.

    12. Commitment and Leadership Commence evaluation

    13. Organisational Management WBL provider organisations are varied in terms of delivery models, size and estates. Some have responsibility for their own buildings/estates, others do not. The scope of this topic area will vary according to the characteristics of your organisation: Many of the areas covered in this section will mean that some providers will only need to adopt a lighter touch.

    14. Organisational Management Commence evaluation

    15. Teaching and Learning To develop the necessary skills, knowledge and values and thereby enable learners to make informed decisions and choices for the future. Much is probably already being delivered without realising it!
