The mind of christ 1 cor. 2:16; 1 pet. 4:1; phil. 2:5-11
A mind that knows truth • 1 Cor. 2:10-16 • Fulfillment of John 16:13 • To have the mind of Christ, we must understand the mystery of God’s will as taught by to the Scriptures. • Jesus and the apostles all used the Scriptures in order to help others comprehend the mysteries of God • Mt. 21:42; 22:29; 26:54, 56; Mk. 12:10, 24; 14:49; Lk. 4:21; 24:27, 44, 45; Jn. 5:39; 7:42; 13:18; 17:12 • Acts 1:16; 8:35; 17:2; Rom. 1:2; 4:3; 9:17; 10:11; 11:2; 16:26; 1 Cor. 15:3, 4; Gal. 4:30; 1 Tim. 5:18, 2 Tim. 3:15 etc. • Rom. 16:25-27
A mind willing to suffer • 1 Pet. 4:1 • According to Peter, this attitude of suffering produces a cessation of sin. • Temptation is a suffering! • Often we wonder why we are suffering through temptation in our lives, forgetting the purpose that it serves. (James 1:2-4, 12) • We must never forget that the mind to suffer with Christ is a mind also set on the cessation of sin. This is the mindset Christ Himself took on. (Heb. 12:3-4)
A mind that is selfless and humble • Phil. 2:5-11 • Christ’s submission has proven to us His worthiness to be our King and Lord (Rev. 5:9-10) • Christ’s humility ought to humble us. (John 13:1-5; 12-17) • In Phil. 2 we see: • Christ’s concern was always for others, even to the point of His death. (Luke 23:27-28, 34, 43; John 19:26-27, 30) • Christ was willing to go to the depths of sacrifice for us. (vv. 6-8) • Rom. 12:3, 6
