  2. History As the name suggests, Turkish Delight originated in Turkey. There are couple of stories related to the origin: • The famous confectioner Bekir Effendi invented it. • Another story has it that, it was first made by a Royal Chef, when there was competition for supremacy among the Royal Chefs in the Royal kitchen.

  3. Bekir Effendi & HaciBekir Bekir effendi was a confectioner from Kastamonu, who later moved to Istanbul. He founded the HaciBekir company. This legendary confectionery shop is still there on HamidiyeCaddesi, Istanbul. At present, the HaciBekir business includes five stores within Istanbul, and they ship their famous Turkish delight to customers all over the world.

  4. Name The Turkish Delight is regionally known as lokma and lokum, derived from the Arabic word luqma(t) and its plural luqūm.

  5. Popularity in the World • After Turkey, where it originated, it became popular in countries like Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania. • Later in 20° century, it became pouplar in North America, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand.
