  1. Jeremiah 6:12-17 BIBLE READING:

  2. ASK FOR THE OLD PATHS Jeremiah 6:16

  3. The Requirement. • He calls for them to “stand by the ways and see.” • God was calling for them to stop and reevaluate the way that they were going (Matt. 7:13-14). • God’s command here is for His people not to allow themselves to be blindly lead astray by the false prophets and leaders of their day (Jere. 6:13-15; Prov. 14:12 & 16:25). • He calls for them to “ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is.” • He calls for them to “walk in it.”

  4. The Reward – “And you shall find rest for your souls.” In His path, we can be assured of three great truths. • We can be sure that we will arrive at the proper destination (John 14:6). • We can travel in safety knowing that the Lord is guarding our way (Psalms 23; Matt. 28:20). • We can know that while we are on the Lord's path, the deepest needs of our soul will be met (Matt. 11:28-30; 2 Tim. 4:17-18). But those who fail to ask for the old paths and refuse to walk in them will find themselves walking in the ways of destruction and misery, a way that brings no rest.

  5. The Refusal. • There is a sad note as we end vs. 16 - “We will not walk in it.” - “We will not listen.” (vs. 17). • Since they would not walk in the Lord's path the results of their choice was chastisement and destruction (vs. 17-30). • Sadly, as we look around us today we see many who are refusing to walk in the old paths.

  6. I will ask for the old paths and walk in them. How About You?
