STATUS OF EMC IN INDIA • Standards followed IEC / CISPR • Not mandatory • However, consumers like Defense /Telecom demand EMC compliance • Facilities for commercial testing exist at 8 Centres operated by Govt. in Major Cities. FCC (Federal Communications Commission, USA) listed sites also available • An initiative taken by Department of Information Technology by launching voluntary certification scheme. • Centres offer Training, Facilities for Product Design & Development, Testing for international compliance and certification
INDIA’S APPROACH • Expansion of labs and testing infrastructure • Up-gradation of skills of test and certification engineers • Legislative Measures planned • Activate consumer forums by educating them about benefits of EMC/EMI Compliance
POSSIBLE APPROACHES • Harmonization of EMC standards at global level (Like US requires mainly emission control whereas EU requires Immunity control as well) • Evolution of mutually acceptable test & certification system • Mutual Recognition scheme to be broad based to cover parameters like factory inspection, if made mandatory by different countries
