CHICAGO ARTISTS RESOURCE • How CAR will impact the Chicago Arts Community: • Centralize information, networks, facilities, opportunities for artists in Chicago • Give artists tools they need in key areas of their practice • Facilitate cross-fertilization and networkingartists, between distinct sub-cultures in the arts community, and between artists and City resources.

CHICAGO ARTISTS RESOURCE Main interface prototype Galleries topic expands when clicked to show sub- topics. 2 levels of Topic Hierarchy appear when rolled over. First, only the main Nav. Topics are visible. As you roll over them, horizontal sub topics appear. These will reveal another vertical sub-menu when rolled over. See live interface prototype for illustration at www.chicagoartistsresource.org/CAR/CAR.html. In this example, the navigation path is: Creative Practice>Exhibition Practice>Galleries>Not-For-Profit Galleries. Results from “Not for Profit Galleries” query of Articles… Database. Before a sub-topic of galleries is selected, this box will call up results from a “Galleries” query of “Articles…” Database. Results from “Not for Profit Galleries” query of External Link scroll vertically and link to specific pages within other sites. ALSO TO BE ADDED TO BROWSE INTERFACE: At top, a set of discipline checkboxes that filter all viewable dynamically compiled content by selected discipline or disciplines.
CHICAGO ARTISTS RESOURCE • CAR Development Challenges: • Presenting large amounts of information without overwhelming the user • Finding ways to encourage the arts community to contribute content • Involving artists in the conceptual, content, and interface development of CAR • Finding ways to encourage artists to use CAR • Creating an ongoing content maintenance strategy that is sustainable • Prioritizing new features for Phased development over time • Developing CAR at a scalable, adaptable tool that can be syndicated to other cities in the US • Choosing a technology platform that is innovative, but stable
