Holding Back Matthew 5:7
Matthew 5:7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Holding Back
Facets of Mercy • Mercy can be viewed as holding back the punishment that someone rightly incurs. • Mercy can be viewed as sympathizing with others, the catalyst for compassion. • Mercy can be viewed as forgiving the trespasses of others against us. • Mercy can be viewed as imitating God who is all merciful, and from whom we learn mercy.
Reciprocal Principle • Mercy was given to us by God, and we are under a mandate to give mercy to others. • When we give mercy, it returns to us through others or through God. Mercy is rewarded with mercy! • We learn to give mercy even in the face of unfaithfulness like God did with Israel and His covenant.
Key of the Kingdom • Mercy is a precious commodity that a world without forgiveness, compassion and godliness lacks and desires. • Mercy is a taught attitude and action, not naturally occurring in humanity. • We must be the one to act on mercy, not think someone else will do it. • Mercy will be given in short bursts now, and by our God in the end of time fully!
