Week In Review 5th Annual Meeting of the PHT
Strategic outcomes of the meeting Formulate a strategy for the PHT, informed by the performance review • Clarify where the PHT stops and other development activities and related networks continue • Define membership of PHT • Use 8 points of the Minimum Preparedness Package to guide national preparedness and develop regional preparedness plan • Articulation and mapping of partnerships, capacity building, resource mobilization and coordination arrangements • Strengthen PHT partnerships in the north Pacific • Explore the VHT model for other locations
Tangible Outcomes Short term next steps: • Mapping of contingency stocks • Information and Emergency Communication materials • Who Does What Where mapping in the clusters and in the countries • Clusters need to define 1 or 2 priority actions to complete before 01 Dec • Participants need to input into the PHT performance review in the coming weeks • Gender in DM network is formed to replicate communities of practice in PICs • 10 males from PHT organisations to join the Gender in DM network • PHT logo
Tangible Outcomes Medium term next steps: • Simulation exercises at National level • Civil Military coordination activities • Strengthen IDRL activities • Strengthen linkages with scientific bodies for ex: climate-related early warning mechanisms • Encourage systematic collection of sex and age disaggregated data during emergencies • ICCG to work on the standardization of assistance packages • Work to continue on Common Operational Datasets and their systematic use in disasters • Find a mechanism for tracking cluster progress towards strategic goals • ICCG to discuss a joint proposal for funds to strengthen coordination
Thank you See you in 2013
Suggestions Male Gender Focal Point: Stan FSM, Patrick EMCI, Recommendations for countries • Institutionalizing the PHT into the revised National Disaster Management Plans and Arrangements Cautionary notes: • PHT strategy needs to clearly show where it adds value to national mechanisms • Regional “plans” should make sure they are relevant
