Objectives for the Day: • To update you on what came out of last years’ forums • To update you on highlights from the last year • To identify local needs and where and how your expertise can be best used to make a difference locally to support Programme delivery of the most challenging areas • To explore different areas of the Programme through workshops, gaining tips and advice to take back to your role LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

Today is an opportunity for those who are passionate about Programme and who support the Scout Programme to be in one room, to allows us to share information with you, for you to share with each other and for us to really think about how we support our Section Leaders to deliver a high quality Programme for every young person. 8. Beaver and Cub Logbooks • Beaver logbook- partnership with Beaver Colonies. £1.50 • Feedback that • the Cub logbook • was too expensive • amended and • tweaked- now £1.50 instead of £8 LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

9. The Scout Project Team- support for the Expedition Challenge Award Context: Feedback indicated that some Scout Leaders were having difficulty in supporting Scouts to achieve the Chief Scout’s Gold Award, particularly around the Expedition Challenge Award.  Aim: To retain Scouts through targeted support that aids delivery and celebration of a quality Programme. The Scout Project Team- support for the Expedition Challenge Award •  This year’s workshop developed following feedback on this • Team recruited largely from the forums last year • Work of project team: • Continuing to develop support for the Expedition Challenge Award • Two webinars have been run, and team are supporting events like Programme forums LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

The Scout Project Team- support for the Expedition Challenge Award • Working on resources to support celebration of Chief Scout’s Gold Award. • Advice around Programme planning and tracking via email  • Continuing to send targeted emails to GSLs, Scout Leaders, Assistant Scout Leaders, and ADC/ACC (and equivalents) for Scouts. • www.scouts.org.uk/expeditionchallenge LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

The Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme • Feedback from the workshops last year and the March Your Programme Your Voice: • The logbook is too long and expensive to print out all the pages • Not enough guidance for deliverers or Section Leaders • Activities don’t translate when working with different group sizes LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

13. The Explorer Scout Young Leaders’ Scheme • Volunteer project team- recruited in May. • Resources and guidance: • Updated logbook- will be much shorter and working with Scout Shops to have available both to buy and print • Preparing to Lead- more activities, more guidance for those delivering the Scheme • Includes information to give to SLs and other who come into contact with the Scheme- will be much bigger- everything for deliverers in one place • Tested with ESYLs and deliverers in Feb in an event in Manchester LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

Reach the Top • Updated resource- ‘Reach the Top’ put together using feedback from the Top Awards Conference last year and Programme Forum workshops. • Contains guidance for the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Diamond Awards. • Merges the information for participants and Commissioners LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

16. Reboot of SOWA (Scouts of the World Award) • Scout Network only award • Project of their choice within the themes of Peace, Environment and Sustainability • Take action on their chosen issue. • Discovery for SOWA happening this weekend here! • Looking for mentors- scouts.org.uk/sowa LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

17. Supporting refugees • A resource has been made to support leaders with talking to young people about refugees LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

18. Programme Support Roles • Programme support roles- District, Group level roles: • We started the discussions on this last year in the forums • Further consultation was needed • Focus groups, surveys and webinars LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

19. Programme Support Roles: the trends • People still want District events, but less and more relevant • Section Leaders repeatedly comment on a want for programme support and advice and guidance “listening ear” • There is a strong message about the importance of having the right people in these roles, doing the right thing • Strong link between how effective they are seen to be and whether this is a secondary role • Section Leaders would like visibility of programme support roles LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

20. Badge Reviews • World Challenge awards, global and international badges, hobbies badges, science and technology (including space) themed badges have been amended based on feedback- done on theme • New badges: LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

Looking Forward! • Beyond 2018 • Consultation: collaborative process began in 2016 and has been gathering pace, culminating in our national conference, Summit17, which was attended by 600 adult volunteers and young people in April 2017. • Draft then went to Districts to check it was right and to prioritise areas • Programme, People, Perception- the draft put ‘Programme’ at the heart. Underpinned by youth shaped, community impact, growth and inclusion LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE

23. Looking Forward! Community Impact: • Million Hand’s ‘Big Moment’ March onwards • Small ‘Programme on a plate’ style resource booklet with 5 steps of Community Impact • Created in response to feedback that the resources for a Million Hands are good, but much too long. These are short and easy to pick up and run with. LIFECHANGINGADVENTURE
