  1. Carers Sub-group – annual review – main trends in 2012 • Challenging year for carers • Carers Sub-group left to find their own solutions to getting a carers network going properly

Carers activity inside and outside the Board in 2012 Routinely - • Carers Sub-group meets regularly to prepare / respond to issues for the Board • We contribute actively to the Kirklees Carers Strategy Group • We contribute actively to Regional Family Carers Network meetings • We contribute actively to the Board's Housing and Health sub-groups

Carers activity inside and outside the Board 2012 One-off activities - We have prepared and printed the 'carers guide to getting the best outcome from the assessment process' - We have prepared a first draft of a carers guide to direct payments - We have organised a meeting for carers to learn about the change from DLA to Personal Independent Payments

  4. Carers role on the Board 2012 Overall - Having a guaranteed 'Carers' slot on each agenda continues to work well, we think. - We seek out the concerns and issues of carers from wherever we can – but that is a real struggle without a proper carers network

  5. Carers issues brought to the Board 2012 Issues raised include - Concern that personal budgets mean 'less', and that the Resource Allocation System is not transparent - More communal space in supported living settings, to reduce isolation - Lack of a consistent approach about paying for day services if you don't attend or if the service is not available - Inconsistent messages about Direct Payments

Carers issues brought to the Board 2012 - continued - Confusion about overlaps in provision (eg new Carers Centre and Gateway to Care) - Assessors treating reviews lightly, and not following proper procedures - The need to ensure that people with disabilities and carers are both clearly included in the Health and Well-being Board priorities - Carer and service-user involvement in commissioning and de-commissioning decisions

  7. Carers current issues / work November 2012 - LDPB Delivery plan – finding better ways to assess the impact of the Board for carers - Building the carers network - Launching the Carers website - Completing the guide to direct payments - Setting up a training session for Local Authority Members

  8. Carers considered thoughts for 2012 about the Board - The Board is successful for information-sharing and informal problem-solving - Board members have followed up carers issues outside meetings - The Board agenda is too full to genuinely debate big issues - Carers have high ambitions for the Board, will continue to invest in it, and press for greater impact from it's work
