Summary of Feedback • Organizational Direction • Team Size: 43% think team sizes are too big BUT 51% think they are just right. Lots of suggestions for 4v4 for K; 5v5 for 1st and 6v6 for 2nd and also for reducing length of games • Recommendation – Investigate smaller team sizes for games and shortening game lengths – need volunteers from coaching community to help. • Works Well: More coaches = better training; Structured drills = better training • Recommendation – Make a minimum of 3 coaches per team – strongly recommend 4. • Change Now: Need to improve officiating; Goal kicks – need to force opposition teams to retreat; Revisit duration of games; Pop-nets for Practice; More vigilance on pushing • Recommendation – Conduct analysis around adding adult volunteers to refereeing; • Recommendation – Immediate: (1) Make kids retreat to half way during a goal kick; (2) Enforce vigilance through coaches on pushing Future: (3) Explore purchasing/sponsorship for pop-up nets. • Overall Philosophy: Generally coaches support all Kids – BUT there are exceptions; Think about switching to once a week (Practice before games on Saturday); remind coaches about equal playing time for all kids • Recommendation – Conduct analysis on same-day soccer (combine with team size / game length analysis) – Need volunteers from coaching community • Recommendation – Immediate: Reinforce during coaches meeting that all kids should be cheered, equal playing time.
Next Steps • Prioritize all recommendations • Focus on 1-2 items for 2011 Fall Implementation • Also look to implement “easy-fixes” for Spring season • Solicit working groups (board and non-board members) to lead proposal details for structural change items • Look to finalize working groups at end of Spring season for Fall 2011 implementation • Plan on a Survey on an annual basis
