  1. Am Lit DO NOW 4/29/14 • Take out any notes you took while reading Ch. 1-2. You may use them on the quiz. • Turn in any Do Nows from last week to US Mail Box. (Remember Do Now Time: move with purpose. Remain Chill)

  2. Success Today Means • Students gather evidence from the novel about the main characters introduced thus far as well as the location. • We will record page numbers to quiz answers and then fill out character and location charts using quotes from the novel. • Later we will compare character actions to their first descriptions.

  3. Am Lit DO NOW 4/30/14 • Answer as many as you can in 6 minutes: • There are two times that Gatsby is mentioned in Ch. 1-2. Find them and list the page number. • What do we know about Jordan Baker? What pages mention her? • What do we know about Tom Buchanan? (ELITE: how does his description match his personality? Hint: do you remember what Daisy calls him at dinner? • ELITE: Do you see any examples of “corruption” so far?

Success Today Means • Students will continue to gather evidence to support characterization and setting development in the exposition of The Great Gatsby. • Students will read Chapter 3: A Gatsby Party scene to develop their understanding of Nick and Gatsby while learning about the “type” of people who come to Gatsby's party

  5. Am Lit DO NOW 5/1/14 • Before we take chapter 3 reading check. What questions did you have problems with? What scenes confused you or you need clarification for? Legitimate questions that show that you struggled, but READ will be answered before we quiz. • Then pick one: would you rather draw a map of the different locations described so far or draw the houses of Nick, Gatsby and the Buchanans?

  6. Success Today Means • Use textual evidence to illustrate either the setting of the Great Gatsby or the houses of the main characters (which we will see start to have symbolic meaning as we learn more about them)

  7. Am Lit DO NOW 5-2-14 • Turn in any Do Nows to the US MAIL BOX. • Take a Poster Handout. • Read Poster Handout.Decide which poster you would rather do: • 1. A Map of the Locations • 2. Draw the houses/characters After that, remind yourself that you should be reading chapters 4-5. If you read 10 pages today, Sat., Sun., Mon., you’ll be done in time!

  8. Success Today Means • Students will gather textual evidence about the setting and characters of The Great Gatsby and will use that evidence to design a visual representation of those elements. • You know you are successful if you get your textual evidence chart completed and a rough draft approved today. • Posters will be due in class on Tuesday. • READING CHECK chapters 4-5 WEDNESDAY

  9. Before Designing the Poster • Must find quotes (textual evidence) and PAGE NUMBERS for each item you will include in your poster. • Make a list of each item and its corrosponding description quote with page number. Get this approved, then design poster. One poster per group but EVERY MEMBER needs the quote list written out on their own paper.
