BDSIM Builds beamline readily from MAD deck; needs a script to convert from MAD8 format. GMAD interface for defining geometries and fields Full simulation and tracking of secondaries Mapping of energy losses Sampling of particle distributions Accelerator tracking incorporated in Geant4: NIM A 10.1016/j.nima.2009.04.040 3
Losses in ILC extraction line 100W/m hands-on limit 20mrad 20mr: losses < 100W/m at 500GeV CM and 1TeV CM2mr: losses are at 100W/m level for 500GeV CM and exceed this level at 1TeVRadiation conditions and shielding to be studied Losses are mostly due to SR. Beam loss is very small 2mrad 250GeV Nominal, 0nm offset 100W/m 45.8kW integr. loss Losses are due to SR and beam loss J. Carter, I. Agapov, G.A. Blair, L. Deacon (JAI/RHUL), A.I. Drozhdin, N.V. Interaction Region in BDSIM • Full IR Geometry modelled in BDSIM • Using MySQL geometry database • Includes a full Solenoid Field Map Choose from TESLA, GLD, or SiD fields Will interface to detector concepts. LHC Beam line layout in BDSIM Dipole magnet Final 60m (minus final drift) before ATLAS IP n-poles collimators quads L. Deacon
Current Status MAD deck updated to enable LHC beamline builds. BDSIM creates last 60m of beamline before ATLAS. Can go back as far as necessary. Chiara Bracco has sent us collimator particle hits, which we can use as input to BDSIM full tracking. We plan first runs this week and present next week at CERN. Develop interface to ATLAS full simulation and beampipe upgrades. 7
Summary • BDSIM is ideal for full simulation of LHC beamline including full secondary production and tracking • Interfaces to Sixtrak output have been defined • First simulations are now underway • ATLAS interfaces planned • Well defined programme; we’re ready to go…
