Scope of Work from KDHE • Develop comprehensive list of SIC and NAICS codes that identify business and manufacturing processes related to PFAS use and/or production • Compile list of businesses that potentially have used PFAS • Sites that stored, used, discharged or spilled AFFF • POTWs • Landfills • GIS map of sites, all counties

3. PFAS compounds properties basics • Carbon-fluorine bond is very strong (i.e., persistent in the environment) • Parts of molecule repel water, parts repel oily compounds (stain resistant). • Terminal groups attract water • USEPA Health Advisory Level is 70 parts per trillion in water.

4. Databases • NDEQ Statewide PFCs (i.e., PFAS) inventory, 2017 • List from NAICS (incl. SIC) • KDHE databases • Kansas Office of State Fire Marshal • Kansas Corporation Commission • NTSB • FAA • Former military bases • Plane crash sites • Kansas Access and Support Center

8. Commercial and Industrial Sites in Kansas • Broad categories – refined on industrial/ commercial processes identified in NAICS/SIC codes – not a simple search. • No data for companies no longer in business

9. Native American tribes • Some Native American tribes were included in the NAICS/SIC code search.

10. Fire Departments/ Office of the State Fire Marshal • OSFM • fire departments identified • Many fire departments use AFFF

11. FAA Part 139 sites • Nine airports regulated under 14 CFR Part 139 in Kansas

12. Military Sites (past and present) • Only sites active since 1966 (when AFFF began to be used) were considered

13. Other Sites • Railroad crash sites • Oilfield fires • Airplane crash sites – AFFF • Trash haulers, transfer stations, recycling facilities, sewer systems (no septic systems included)

14. Landfills and POTWs • Mostly identified from KDHE databases • landfills identified • POTW outfalls, industrial and municipal facilities • Already in the KDHE database - not mapped on the individual county maps

16. Create GIS Maps County maps of potential facilities (all 104 counties) – searchable database • 141 maps were created (6 counties had multiple inset maps)
