Matching Tracks from IDScan and TRTxK UK e/gamma Meeting, January 2005 Graham Kilvington Royal Holloway, University of London 1 20/1/05
Overview • Using the e/gamma analysis framework and 8.0.2 production ntuples of 25 GeV single electron events to study tracking algorithm performance • Track matching: using combination of information from different algorithms to improve identification • Current status of investigations • Future plans 2 20/1/05
The Track Matching Idea: • Use combination of information from IDScan tracks and TRTxK tracks to identify electrons • In each event, impose a loose cut on each IDScan track (on pT) and a loose set of cuts on each TRTxK track (on pT and LHits) • If event contains an IDScan track and a TRTxK track that pass the cuts, check to see if there is an IDScan track with very similar properties to a TRTxK track using a set of comparison cuts • If event also passes these cuts then we say an electron has been found 3 20/1/05
Comparison Method: • Compare every IDScan track to every TRTxK track • Variables being used in comparison are: ∆pT, ∆Φ, and ∆D0 • ∆pT is the difference between the |pT| of the IDScan Track and the |pT| of the TRTxK track • ∆Φ is the difference between Φ at closest approach to origin of the IDScan track and the TRTxK track • ∆D0 is the difference between the radius of closest approach to origin (in the x-y plane) of the IDScan Track and the TRTxK track 4 20/1/05

Future plans: • Need background data to finalise study – hopefully this can be arranged in the near future, using a version of the framework that works on the new production ntuples • Look into SiTrack to TRTxK track-matching • Continue investigations into how IDScan and TRTxK track reconstruction could give rise to the unexpected features highlighted in the plots shown on previous slides 13 20/1/05
