Sandwich Task Last year, Carol took her students on field trips to Portland. 4 students went to Portland State University, 5 went to PGE Park, 8 went to the Oregon Zoo, and the 5 remaining students went to Forest Park. They ran into a problem because the school cafeteria staff made 17 submarine sandwiches. They gave 3 sandwiches to the 4 kids going to Portland State and the 5 kids going to PGE Park got 4 sandwiches. The 8 kids that went to the Oregon Zoo got 7 sandwiches and the 5 students at Forest Park got 3 sandwiches. The students didn’t eat together and several kids complained that it wasn’t fair, that some kids got more to eat. What do you think about this? Were they right? If they were and it wasn’t fair, I would like to create a system where everyone gets a fair amount to eat. Is that possible?
