  2. Why Tour? • Excellent means to promote an artist’s album, • But, for most new artists the costs of touring exceed the income derived from the engagement. • The development of video as a promotional tool has reduced the importance of conventional tour support.

  3. Gross receipts • Money earned from ticket sales • You need to get accurate accounting of the number of seats sold, even if it means using a clicker for “festival” dates.

  4. Expenses • Be aware: some are passed along by promoters while they keep any rebates or discounts they receive from ticket sales or radio stations

  5. Typical Expenses • Advertising – can be a cross-promotion for a current album. • Rent for the facility • Personnel – box office, cleanup, ushers, ticket takers, doormen • Rental of equipment – public address system, lights, pianos, etc. • Insurance
