  1. The Digestive System By: Pablo Zagarra P.5 Science

  2. Mouth The mouth chews the food to make it easier for the body to swallow and then digest

  3. Salivary Glands The salivary glands make saliva which makes the food softer for us to chew it easier and for us to swallow and digest it faster

  4. Esophagus • the esophagus transports the swollen food from the mouth to digestion

  5. Liver • Makes bile and stores nutrients which changes some into basic elements.

  6. Stomach • Its main purpose is to digest food using the gastric juices and muscular movement

  7. Gallbladder • It is used to digest the fat in the food (but it is not required to live)

  8. Pancreas • It creates hormones and enzymes that help break down food.

  9. Large Intestine/Colon • Absorbs water from the remaining undigested food and transports waste out of the water. (also called Colon)

  10. Small Intestine • Absorbs the nutrients from the undigested food and then passes the food to the large intestine.

  11. Rectum • All the waste the is about to leave the body is stored here.

  12. Anus • Where all the waste leaves our body.
