TWO BUILDERS “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock” (Matt. 7:24-25)
“Therefore” A culmination of thoughts in sermon on mount. Go beyond the commandments. Pray Be not anxious. Watch out for rash judgments. The “golden” rule. “Therefore” listen to Me.
Wise Men Build… Each man builds his own house. Others may help. Wise people seek advice – Prov. 9:8-9; 12:15. On expenses; layout; best material. But each is responsible for his/her own decisions. Realize this – Gal. 6:2-5
The Foundation Only a fool would build on the sand. In real life, many do. Security is based on the foundation. Rock or sand – God or “sentiment” “Jesus said…” Sand – religious speculation; self-righteousness; false hope.
Material Not mentioned in the text. But each “house” be it hut or castle is constructed of something. Building our “life”, we use – Our fortune Our energy Our intelligence Our character.
Storms Will Come Life tests us all. So reassuring – listening to rain and wind knowing it’s “outside”. Loss – fortune, health, loved ones – Heb. 10:34 Hold on to God – Heb. 13:5-8. Build on the true foundation so you will stand the test of time.
