  3. THE-PEP 2014 Fourth High Level Meeting

  4. 1 - THE PEP in France in 2014 France proposes to the THE PEP to held its 2014 High Level Meeting from 14th to 16th April : in La Defense for the technical part, along with TRA 2014 downtown Paris for the political part This will allow THE PEP members to meet transport researchers, and to promote health and environment benefits from walking and cycling during a seminar.

  5. 1 – HLM2014 programme Sunday April 13th : Participants' welcome / Cocktail for TRA attendees Monday 14th : THE PEP opening session TRA participation Strategic session on the theme Urban Innovation and Change: The dynamic nexus of Transport, Environment and Health cocktail Tuesday 15th : Steering committee and thematic meetings Ministerial meeting and Paris declaration adoption Gala dinner Wednesday 16th : Working session with the focal points to prepare the implementation of the paris declaration

  6. 1 – City in motion : people first Amsterdam declaration goals, given at the 3rd HLM, will be confirmed (according to the last two Bureau meetings): Goal 1: to contribute to sustainable economic development and stimulate job creation through investment in environment- and health-friendly transport Goal 2: to manage sustainable mobility and promote a more efficient transport system Goal 3: to reduce emissions of transport-related greenhouse gases, air pollutants and noise Goal 4: to promote policies and actions conducive to healthy and safe modes of transport And others may be added to Paris declaration

  8. 2 - What is TRA ? TRA stands for Transport Research Arena  TRA is a conference dealing with all modes of land transport, and aims at creating a link between researchers, industry, administration, and users TRA will take place in Paris La Défense, from 14th to 17th April 2014 3000 participants are expected 1100 abstracts were received, from 50 countries 110 propositions of Invited Sessions were received It is possible to become a partner of TRA, and to have a stand on the exhibition close to the conference rooms

  9. A Strategic session at TRA Promoting health and environmental concerns while talking about urban mobility

  10. 3 – The driving idea A Joint Strategic Seminar among the three organisations (ITF, TRA and THE-PEP) is proposed, to bridge the gap between the scientific, research and innovation community on the one hand, and strategies, measures and programmes of urban policymakers and planners on the other hand, while showcasing how transport needs are safeguarded while taking into account health and environmental concerns. Participants in the Seminar will discuss the challenges and opportunities of applying scientific and evidence-based research and policy instruments to meet the transport and mobility needs of large urban agglomerations and to embrace the notion of urban liveability as well as green and health-friendly patterns of work and livelihood.

  11. 3 – Proposed thematic points New Mobility Needs: active mobility such as walking and cycling, use of inland (urban) waterways for people and cargo, multimodal hubs, accessibility for vulnerable groups, e.g. elderly, poor, children, and people with reduced mobility; How do we share space? And what are the innovative technologies to facilitate this? New Urbanism: more compact and dense cities, focus on urban spatial planning and the links between housing, zoning, transport and energy efficiency. The New Urbanism is linked to the dream of youth: how do they want to live in the cities of the future? New Links: policies and measures that support a seamless journey between active mobility and public transport which is safe, clean, accessible, affordable and attractive

  12. 3 – Proposed strategic session 1 theme : Urban Innovation and Change: The dynamic nexus of Transport, Environment and Health 1 moderator : José Viegas, SG of the International Transport Forum inside the OECD system (to be confirmed) 1 keynote speaker : Minister of Environment from a member state (to be confirmed) 4 expected panellists (to be confirmed) : Youth leader from WHO young journalists Representative of Urban and Spatial Planning Ministry or private enterprise, e.g. Gehl Architects Counsellor of the city of London for transport health and environment (Polis) Mayor or representative of a French great city
