Peng, fzpeng@egr.msu.edu, 517-432-3331 Objective: To develop an efficient and low cost adjustable speed drive while minimizing switching frequency and input current harmonic distortion using the PEBB concept. 83 kVA Multilevel Inverter Building Block 1 MVA, 6,000 V Cascaded Multilevel Inverter/Adjustable Speed Drive • Features • Uses 12 identical multilevel inverter building blocks in cascade to create a 3-phase, 17 level topology; • Able to use 1200V IGBTs, while total output voltage is 6,000 V ac; • Utilizes a unique configuration to minimize harmonic line current; • The 17-level topology allows for low harmonic content at the output at very low switching frequencies; • Low dv/dt reduces motor insulation stress 1 MVA, 6000 V System Operation
