Vector graphics are resolution –independent and can print at any resolution your printer can. • Bitmap Images • Bitmap Images are formed by a rectangular grid of small squares known as pixels. The amount of color information in a bitmap image determines its file size. Bitmap images are resolution – dependent appearing jagged if they are created at a low resolution and enlarged or printed at a higher resolution. (example: downloaded web images) • *.tiff (bitmap; maintains integrity; RBG or CMYK) • *.jpg (compressed bitmap; loses integrity; RGB or CMYK) • *.esp (encapsulated post script; vector or bitmap; Mac to Windows) • Bitmap Output Resolution: • A computer screen = number of pixels per inch (ppi) • A printer = dots per inch (dpi) • A scanner = number of pixels per inch of scanned image • -If the image resolution is too high for an output device, it will take a long time to produce and you will not gain clarity. Be sure to use the “Save As” option in Power Point or PageMaker to reduce your file size. Colors Stay away from odd hues or custom color palettes, they never print the way you want. Stick with primary colors or reduced percentages of primary colors. Color Models: RBG= Red Blue Green; colors are translated using three colors.
