  2. The Ensembles • Symphonic Band is the varsity ensemble, it performs the most, and has the most rigorous curriculum (equivalent to a Pre-AP class) • Concert Band is the non-varsity ensemble, it has fewer performances, with a less challenging course-load (equivalent to a regular academic class) • Jazz Band is an extra-curricular ensemble that meets after school, it performs swing, rock, and funk styles of music

  3. Ensemble Placement • Students are selected for ensembles based on their audition, attendance to sectionals and other band events, and their attitude/maturity • All students audition in May and December, so they have the opportunity to move up/down at the end of each semester

  4. Sectionals • All JH band students will attend mandatory sectional rehearsals once a week • These rehearsals address instrument specific techniques and music • Morning (7 – 8am) or afternoon (3:45 – 5:00pm*) • If a student will miss, please contact us in advance • Students will need to schedule a time to make up a missed sectional(one time for an excused absence, twice for an unexcused absence) • The sectional schedule will be printed on the back of the student’s objective sheet

  5. Outside of SchoolBand Rehearsals & Events • Please check the band calendar on Charms or the band calendar in your student’s band binder to see upcoming band events • If a student is going to miss, please contact us in advance

  6. Objective Sheets • Contain all the objectives a student needs to pass off by the end of each six weeks • Parents can check their student’s progress at any point in the six weeks by looking at their student’s objective sheet • A student’s grade corresponds directly to what objectives they pass off • Students who master all objectives are rewarded with a master musician movie ticket in December and May
