  9. INSTITUTIONAL TRAININGGRANTS LUCE FOUNDATION NSFAGEP NRTICGE MELLON FOUNDATION NSFINCLUDES Pathways to aDiverse Faculty This grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will help UC Merced support 6 humanities doctoral students and 1 peer mentor in the campus's Competitive Edge Summer BridgeProgram. The NSF AGEP California HSI Alliance brings together four Hispanic Serving Institutions in California: UCSB, CSU Fresno State and CSU Channel Islands; with the specific goal of developing, implementing and testing a model for creating a more diverse STEM facultyworkforce. The Alliance focuses on pedagogical trainingand career mentorship to dissertating doctoral students The Henry Luce Foundation has funded the $280,000 proposal. This two- year project at UC Merced aims to bring academic and non- academic researchers together to recast the role of humanities in public policy and, ultimately, improve the lives of San Joaquin Valley residents. The UC Merced Interdisciplinary Computational Graduate Education (ICGE) program is an Innovations in Graduate Education National Research Training program funded by the National Science Foundation. The program aims to enhance student success and reduce graduate student attrition rates in the computational sciences, particularly for underrepresented minorities and first- generationstudents. UC Merced is part of a consortium of more than 40 other institutions and organizations from the public and private sector which were awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant worth nearly $10 million as part of a national effort to increase the number of Hispanic students who participate in computing. KNOWLEDGE GAPS Presentations are communication tools that can be used as demonstrations. UROC-HProgram This grant was awarded to expand the representation of Latino/a and other underrepresented minority students in Ph.D programs and ultimately theprofessoriate.
