  4. The President • Serves a 4 year term • Limited to 2 terms • the 22nd Amendment • Qualifications • Must be 35 years old • Must live in the U.S. for 14 years prior to election • Must be a Natural Born citizen

  5. Role of the Electoral College • The Popular Vote does not elect a president • Presidents elected by the Electoral College • Checks the people • Electoral College • 538 members • Each state has a number of electors • A candidate must reach a majority to win election

  6. Formula for Electors • Each state has electors equaling • Number of representatives plus • Number of Senators (2) • The District of Columbia receives 3 electors

  7. Roles of the President • Runs the Executive department • Conducts foreign relations • Commander-in-Chief • Head of State • Promotes Legislation • Guardian of the Economy • Party Leader
