Coat of arms of Kohtla-Jarve Golden colour and flames refer to oil-shale. Blue refers to the Jarve village which gave the name to the town (Estonian ‘järv’ means ‘lake’). The number of flames (6) refers to two events in the history of the town. 1916 - starting of the mining of oil-shale. 1946 - Kohtla-Järve got rights of town.
The Flag of Kohtla-Järve The decoration is similar to the coat of arms. Golden color and flames refer to oil-shale. Blue refers to the Jarve village which gave the name to the town. The sloping line refers to the mines and artificial ash hills. The flagstaff is blue, the finial is golden.

Suitsukala It’s a smoked trout. It’s quite popular among Estonian people. Usually suitsukala is eaten with potatoes.
