The Hero’s Journey. Let’s think…. Make a list of your favorite stories. These can be movies, TV series, books, campfire stories, etc. After you’ve made your list, think about what all these stories have in common. List as many things in common as you can. Agree or Disagree?.

  2. Let’s think… • Make a list of your favorite stories. These can be movies, TV series, books, campfire stories, etc. • After you’ve made your list, think about what all these stories have in common. List as many things in common as you can.

Before We Read • The importance of purpose • Read the piece and circle what you think is important • Use a pink highlighter to mark things a robber would find important • Use a yellow highlighter to mark things a prospective homebuyer would find important • What do you notice about your markings? • Let’s set our purpose – develop some questions

  7. As You Read • Stop Periodically (you decide when) and …. • Clarify • Recap • Ask a question • Answer one of your purpose questions • Jot down a note • Share your opinion

After You Read • Summarize – 3 sentences or less • Apply your knowledge • Find a partner • BOTH of you get out a sheet of paper • Create 3 columns like this: • Fill in the first 2 columns with information from the article. Then, select a movie or book that follows the Hero’s Journey. Fill in the 3rd column with examples from your selected book/movie.

  9. Summary Joseph Campbell wrote a book called The Hero with a Thousand Faces. In it he explained his idea that there is only 1 hero story (the monomyth) that keeps getting retold. There are roughly 12 stages in the hero’s journey.
