  2. Characteristics of Godly Faith • Tremendous word in the language of a Christian- faith • Today we will consider 14 characteristics of Godly faith

  3. 14 Characteristics • 1. Godly faith is supernatural • It is God-given • It is God-blessed • It is the only door to salvation • Habakkuk 2:4 • Romans 1:17 • Galatians 3:11

  4. 14 Characteristics • 1. Godly faith is supernatural • Hebrews 10:38 • Originally God’s plan was grace through substitutionary sacrifices • Legalism crept in • Self-effort • Self-salvation • Self-glorification

  5. 14 Characteristics • 1. Godly faith is supernatural • God despises all works systems • Covenant • Promises of God freely extended

  6. 14 Characteristics • 2. Godly faith reduces stress-11:1 • “…the assurance” • No need for worry, anxiety • Matthew 6:25-34 • God has a plan for every person

  9. 14 Characteristics • 4. Godly faith is based on evidence • 11:1- “…for the conviction or evidence of things not seen” • Faith is not wistful longing • Faith is based on God’s remarkable perfect record of infallible proofs • The evidence compels us to invest our lives in this belief

  10. 14 Characteristics • 5. Godly faith pictures reality • 11:1- “…the assurance of things hoped for” • Definition of faith: “Faith is living in a hope so real that it gives absolute assurance that what is spoken by God is true.” • Not fantasy • Not make believe

  11. 14 Characteristics • 5. Godly faith pictures reality • Not nice little story, but powerful to save us • 1 Corinthians 1:24- “Christ the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.” • We accept natural faith readily • Examples

  12. 14 Characteristics • 6. Godly faith is unshakeable • 2 Timothy 1:12 • Challenges to our faith are valuable • When tested, we lose heart or gain courage to stay true

  13. 14 Characteristics • 7. Godly faith is honored by God • 11:2- “For by it the men of old gained approval.”

  14. 14 Characteristics • 8. Godly faith is transforming and convincing • 1 Corinthians 2:16 • Philippians 4:8 • Affected by faithless thinkers: • Philosophy- resulting in confusion and no solid answers • Pseudo-science…1 Timothy 6:20b

  15. 14 Characteristics • 8. Godly faith is transforming and convincing • Art- Abstract form with no clear meaning • Music- loss of melody and rhythm • Culture- no values, no morality • Theology- dismisses vital and important doctrines
