History of robots Unimate was the first industrial robot ever created (1960s) The first assembly robot constructed a toy boat and a car from a heap of mixed parts. (1970s) Robotic Age kicks off with a new robot or company entering the market every month (1980s) NASA’s Pathfinder lands on Mars and the rover captures images (1990s)

Robotics at the U of A Mechanical Engineering – includes the design, analysis and manufacturing of machines. Mechanical Engineers work to make our lives more comfortable They create machines, products, and new technologies. A mechanical engineer may design machines that build other machines. For instance, a robotics engineer may be involved with creating the devices that are used in assembling automobiles. Engineers are concerned with the robot's structure, its joint mechanisms, bearings, and heat transfer characteristics.
