Brothers and sisters: Put on, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if one has a grievance against another; as the Lord has forgiven you, so must you also do. And over all these put on love, that is, the bond of perfection. And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful…And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossians 3:12-17

Our guiding principles for leadership… • A real leader constantly “sharpens the saw!” • Development takes place within a reflective culture • Professional learning/development is comprehensive, integrated, and progressive • Formation should reflect the career continuum and the needs of the principal • “What can we do together that we cannot do so well alone?”

Strategic Plan Goal 2 - Action 8 states… Professional and Leadership Development In consultation with the Executive Principals and with support from the Fulcrum Foundation, the OCS will develop a roster of high-quality programs for professional, leadership, and faith development of teachers and principals, adapted to their respective levels of experience and stages of development and promoted on the OCS website. What are key attributes of a leader? What are the skills related to principal’s roles? How can we, OCS and principal leaders, be of mutual support?

  6. Targets… I can articulate the action and ten tasks related to Goal 2, Action 8 of the Strategic Plan. I can identify key attributes in my leadership style and in most successful leaders. Using a metric, I can begin to identify… • my “stage of development.” • my PD needs as they relate to my role and stage. Using the same metric, I can begin to identify future leaders.

Goal 2 - Action 8 Professional and Leadership Development In consultation with the Executive Principals and with support from the Fulcrum Foundation, the OCS will develop a roster of high-quality programs for professional, leadership, and faith development of teachers and principals, adapted to their respective levels of experience and stages of development and promoted on the OCS website.

  15. Task 1 of 10: Establish (coordinate resources) • Comprehensive PD • Leadership / Faith Development • Common goals and local needs • Including opportunities for Teachers Canonically Appointed Leaders Administrators School Commissioners

  16. Task 2 of 10: Certification Formation Partnerships negotiated with schools of education that will provide leadership programs and opportunities and resources for professional development.  

  17. Task 3 of 10: Formation The OCS will identify and train a cadre of experienced principals to mentor new principals and any principal who requests a mentor or whose pastor or canonically appointed leader requests a mentor for him or her.

  18. Task 4 of 10: Formation/Information The OCS, in collaboration with the Fulcrum Foundation, will develop criteria and procedures for proactively identifying principals and teachers who would benefit from specific programs for leadership and faith development and will encourage them to enroll.

  19. Task 5 of 10: Formation/Information Develop policies and a process for securing funding to send pastors or canonically appointed leaders to summer programs for pastors of schools, such as the ACE program at Notre Dame.

  20. Task 6 of 10: With the cooperation of schools, the OCS will set up centers in each school region and on the OCS website for sharing …

Task 9 of 10: Principals will be trained on a recurring schedule about the roles of the principal of a Catholic school, including faith development, budgeting, marketing and fundraising, and the development of a school commission.
