Alcohol Poisoning What is Alcohol poisoning? Alcohol poisoning is what happens when a person consumes a toxic amount of alcohol. The liver is working to flush the alcohol from your blood as you are drinking, all though the liver can only process so much at a time. Binge drinking is a common cause of alcohol poisoning. Signs and Symptoms Mental confusion Vomiting Irregular breathing Seizures Hypothermia Coma
Signs and Symptoms Abdominal pain Confusion Fatigue Jaundice Ascites Fever Weight gain Liver Disease What is Liver disease? All though there are many types of liver diseases, I will explain a little about the type of disease that is caused by alcohol. Alcoholic liver disease happens after years of heavy drinking and binge drinking, what happens is the liver becomes inflamed from the alcohol. Over years the liver becomes scared and has a build up of fatty tissue this causes your liver to no longer function properly. The final stage of liver disease is when cirrhosis occurs.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases Types of STD’S Herpes Hepatitis Gonorrhea Chlamydia Aids Binge drinking can put a person at a higher risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. Binge drinking five or more alcoholic beverages decreases your ability to make wise and clear decisions. This can cause a person to engage in sexual behaviors that one would not usually take part in. Engaging in risky sexual behaviors can result in sexually transmitted diseases, some can be treated and some can change your life forever.

College students and binge drinking Why is the percentage of binge drinkers higher among college students? College can be stressful between meeting new people, being away from home and managing to keep good grades students may become overwhelmed. The stress of college life may be one factor as to why the percentage of binge drinking is higher. Also joining a frat may increase your popularity, therefor being invited to more parties where drinking is the main focus may take place. College students tend to play more drinking games that consist of drinking large quantities in short periods of time.
