The Negro Leagues. John W. “Bud” Fowler. Was the first Negro player to break the “color barrier” in 1878 Invented shin guards. Andrew Rube Foster. He was a pitcher for the Chicago Union Giants, the Cuban X-Giants, and the Philadelphia Giants 54-1 record with the Cuban X-Giants.

  3. Andrew Rube Foster • He was a pitcher for the Chicago Union Giants, the Cuban X-Giants, and the Philadelphia Giants • 54-1 record with the Cuban X-Giants

  4. Andrew Rube Foster • Founded the Negro National League • February 14th, 1920 • The league was shut down in 1930 • Finally, inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981

  5. Henry “Hank” Aaron • 2nd most home runs all-time in MLB • Played on the Indianapolis Clowns in NNL and Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves • 1957 MVP • Inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982

  6. Ernie Banks • 512 career home runs in MLB • 2 MVP awards • Played on Kansas City Monarchs and Chicago Cubs • Inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1977

  7. James “Cool Papa” Bell • Made “Jesse Owens would have looked like he was walking” • Played on the St. Louis Stars in the 1920’s for $90 a month, later on the KC Monarchs in the 1930’s

  8. Monte Irvin • Was 18 when he played on the 1937 Newark Eagles • Served in WWll in the prime of his career

  9. Leroy “Satchel” Paige • Spent 25 seasons in the Negro League’s (1926-1950) • 15 more years in the MLB • At age 59, he pitched 3 innings • Elected in Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971
