CETYS Publishing • SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HUMANIST UNIVERSITIES • The search for economic self–sufficiency in order to supply humanist education: proceeds derived from the mission, not profit. • The meaning of the humanist university as an institution that seeks a person’s integral and intelectual training . • Openness to the presence of what is finite and eternal in social and personal life (sheltered by the religious phenomenon when it comes to strengthen spirituality).

CETYS Publishing • The word HUMANIST may be applied to public and private universities, institutes, research centers, and religious universities, as long as they express the before-mentioned characteristics. In fact, the word humanist may even be overrated to a religious school, as well as to universities dedicated to humanism. That is, humanism does not depend on experts or investigators, but in the virtue of helping the human being educate himself.

CETYS Publishing • To all universities, economic self-sufficiency is essential; this applies to humanist universities as well. The managers must risk all their talent, managing capability and practical sense to provide all this to the academic faculty. • Commercialization, based on the constant search for profit without a counterweight that avoids monopolic positions, is unreconcilable with ethics and the social function of an authentic humanist university.

CETYS Publishing • Education itself does not accept the phrase: “give customers what they ask for”. That is, education does not last like merchandise, or an object of consumption. On the other hand, instruction and training, which non-humanist universities deal with, are important goods and services in the market.

Induction to college life workshop Objective: Involve new entrance students in a reflection and introspection process, where they face their human reality with the college life they are about to begin. That is why the workshop intends to provide reflection models in the sense of student life in three dimensions: in the personal area, in college life and as a member of the CETYS community.
