Creating Your First Class • Click on new class (class will open as untitled 1. • Changing default headings • Select style • Select student data • In the misc. column titles box, replace misc. 1, misc. 2, and misc. 3, with whatever you would like the headings to be. (For example you might change one of the misc. boxes to birth date or home school). Whatever you change the misc. column title to will appear as a column heading on the student information screen. • Click ok
Creating Your First Class (continued) • Setting up Teacher/Class Information • Select class from the menu bar • Select class information • In the class information box fill out the appropriate information (most of this information can be found on you class lists). • Click ok • Select class • Select report headings • In the report heading box, type in the name of the class (for example Eng. 11 – 1st Period). • Click ok
Creating Your First Class (continued) • Add student names • Within the untitled 1 box, select the name field • Enter last name, first name • Enter the student ID in the ID field • Enter the remaining information in each heading
Creating Your First Class (continued) • Save the class • Click file • Click save class as (the save class as window appears) • In the save in box at the top, click on the arrow • Find and click on $on‘careersvr’ • Click on the Grades 2005-2006 folder • In the file name box, name the class. It would probably be a good idea to have your name and the class time in the title so that you can easily reference it in the future. (For example, for Mr. Conser’s 2nd Period English 12 Class, I might save it as Con Eng 12-2). • Click save • After you have saved the class, e-mail Phil and let him know that you have dropped your class into the 2005-2006 Grades Folder. He will then change the security rights so that other people cannot access your information.
Establishing Grading Periods • From the menu bar select class • Select grading periods (the grading period box opens) • Complete the grading period box with the appropriate information • Each numbered box represents a grading period, so if, for example, you have a year long course, you will need to fill in four boxes, (one for each 9 weeks). Each grading period will be called a quarter. Therefore, when filling out the first description box, you would enter Quarter 1 in the description box.
Establishing Grading Periods (continued) • The weight box should be kept at 100. • The start date is the date on which the grading period begins. • The rest of the information in the Grading Period box can be filled in according to the teacher’s own preferences. • Click ok
Grading Scales • Select class from the menu bar • Select grading scales (the grading scale box pops up) • You will notice that the default grading scale is not the same as the grading scale of the CCCTC, therefore we are going to need to change some settings • At the top of the grading scale box you will see the words grading scale, followed by a box with the number 1 in it. • Change the number to 2 (you will see everything set at zero).
Grading Scales (continued) • In the first grade description box, type in the letter A. • In the lower cutoff box, change the number to 91% • In the next grade description box, type in the letter B. • In the lower cutoff box, change the number to 81%. • In the next grade description box, type in the letter C. • In the lower cutoff box, change the number to 71%. • In the next grade description box, type in the letter D. • In the lower cutoff box, change the number to 61%. • In the next grade description box, type in the letter F. • In the lower cutoff box, change the number to 60%. • Click ok to save the changes • Click file • Click save class
Grading Period View • Open the class as usual • In the menu bar at the top of the screen,click on style ( a pull down menu of options will appear). • Click on Screen Preferences (a Screen Preferences box will appear). • In the Screen Preferences box, the third button down is the Grading Period button. • Make sure the Grading Period button is filled in. • Click the down arrow beside the box that has Quarter 1, Quarter 2, or Quarter 3 in it. • Highlight the quarter you want to view when the score screen comes up. • Click OK
Creating Comments • Open your class file • Select class from the menu bar • Select comments (the edit comments window appears) • Click insert • Write your comment (be sure to write only one comment) • Repeat this process for each comment you want to write. • When you have completed writing comments click on done
Setting Up the School Week • Select class from the menu • Select school week (the school week window will open) • Place a check in each day of the week the class is in session. • Click ok
Setting Up AttendanceCodes • Select class from the menu • Select attendance codes (the attendance code widow will appear). • You can add or delete categories in this window. • Add new categories by selecting append and completing each text box with your preferences • Delete categories by highlighting the category to be deleted and clicking delete. • Click OK to save settings
Creating Assignments • Click the assign button under the menu bar • Enter an assignment name in the description column • Enter the number of points assigned in the points column • Leave the weight column at 1.00 • Do not change the adjust column • The category column can be used to give the assignment a category (for example; homework, test, total points, etc.).
Creating Assignments (continued) • The Miscellaneous Column if for any Information the Teacher Wishes to Place There • The title miscellaneous can be changed to whatever the teacher wants it to read (for example; date, page numbers, etc.). • To change the miscellaneous heading • Click style in the menu • Click assignment data (the assignment data window appears) • In the miscellaneous column title box, type in whatever you want the title of the column to be.(For example; assignment date, or due date). • Click ok
Generating Reports • In the menu bar click report. (A pull down menu of options will come up). • Various reports are available and are fairly self-explanatory. • ALL printed documentation must come from the reports section.
Saving • In the menu bar click on file. (A pull down menu of options will appear). • Click save class as. (A save class as box will appear. • Click on the down arrow beside the small rectangular save in box. (A pull down menu of options will appear). • Double click on Ccctcgrds$ on Careersvr (G:). • Double click on the Grades 2005-2006 folder. (A save class as box will appear) • In the rectangular box beside the words File Name type in the name of your class (use your last name and some way to identify the class). • Click save. • You can now exit Grade Machine. (If you are asked if you want to save changes, click wantto save changes, click yes.
Opening Your Class • Open Grade Machine • In the menu bar click on file. • Click on open class. (An open a class box will appear). • In the small rectangular box beside the words look in click on the down arrow button (A pull down menu of options will appear). • Click on Ccctcgrds$ on Careersvr (G:) • Double click on Grades 2006-2007. • Find your class and double click on it. • You are ready to record grades.
