What does CfE mean for my child? • Pre-school and Primary • Broad General Education 3-15 • early pre-school to P1 • first P2 to P4 • second P5 to P7 • third & fourth S1 to S3 • Modest curriculum changes • More emphasis on active engagement in learning • Literacy, numeracy and aspects of health & wellbeing responsibility of all • Fewer outcomes, broader levels
What does CfE mean for my child? • Learning more relevant and in context • Profiling of progress and achievement • ‘Space’ to broaden and deepen learning balanced against progression • Assessment more 'valid' and 'reliable' and as part of learning • Better continuity pre-school to P1 and P7-S1 • Focus on transferable skills
Education Service Progress this year • 2010/11 first full year of CfE nationally • All schools using Es & Os to plan almost all learning • Good progress with assessment and moderation (BCA) • First reports in CfE format (DCS) • Almost 40% of schools piloting CfE transferable skills • Developing expertise in ‘active learning’
Education Service Next steps • All schools have three year plans for CfE (11/12 – 13/14) • In 2011/12, focus on: • Planning and tracking learning (OTwL) • Assessment • Profiling learners and learning (notably P7) • Active learning (Co-op; MIE; FSIN) • Transferable skills • Literacy / Numeracy / HWB • Parental information and engagement
