Impresionism and Post-Impressionism Vocabulary Landscape- a painting or drawing of the land or a natural environment En Plein Air- French for “in the open air.” Sketching or painting outdoors, as opposed to in a studio Still life- a painting or drawing of flowers, fruit, or other assorted objects Portrait- a picture of a person Tight brush stroke- when the brushstrokes on a painting are not visible, giving the art a polished look Loose brush stroke- when specific strokes from a brush are visible on a painting
