The Greasy Test!!! Gianni Sapoch 4th block Mr. Gorden
Question • Which of my snack crackers are the greasiest?
Background • The reason I picked this topic is because my hands always get greasy when I eat crackers. I do not like it because the grease gets all over my clothes and homework papers. Therefore, I want to see which crackers are the least greasiest so I don’t get as much grease over everything!
Variables • Independent: The brand of the crackers. • Dependent: The amount of grease left on the napkin. • Controlled: The paper towel, same amount of crackers, temperature of the room
Hypothesis • If I put both of the crackers on the napkin, then the cheez-it would be the greasiest after 30 minutes.
Materials • 1 paper towel. • 2 of each of the crackers (Cheez-it and Goldfish). • 1 sharpie or pen. • 1 kitchen timer.
Procedure • Put the two crackers on the paper towel. • Label the two spots where you'll put the crackers. • Set the kitchen timer for 10 minutes. • When the timer goes off then see which one has more grease by measuring the amount of grease on the paper towel with a ruler. • Graph your results.

Conclusion The question asked was which cracker would release the most grease onto a paper towel. For the experiment I put two crackers (Goldfish and Cheeze-it) onto a paper towel and left them there for 30 minutes. After the experiment was finished I examined the two paper towels and measured how much grease was left on the paper towel by using a ruler. I found that the Cheeze-it had a wider grease print then the Goldfish. Therefore, my hypothesis was proven to be correct. If I had to conduct this experiment again I would use more brands of crackers to get a better sample size.
