  2. Battle stats • 7,863 people died in the battle. • 27,224 were wounded. • 11,199 MIA (Missing In Action). • The Union had 93,921 soldiers Confederates 71,699 soldiers.

  3. How the battle started • Jefferson Davis order Robert E. Lee to send troops into Pennsylvania where they were met by Union forces

  4. First day of Battle • First day was on July 1st 1863. • General Lee marched his army from northern Virginia into Pennsylvania in late June 1863. • The advancing confederates clashed with the union army of the Potomac Commanded by General George G Meade.

  5. Second day of Battle • The second was July 2nd 1863. • The Union line from Culp's hill southeast of the town. • Lee’s battle plan for July 2 called for Longstreet's first corps to position itself stealthily to attack the Union’s left flank. • The Confederates did not launch their attack until after 4 and 5 pm. • About 7pm the second corps attacked by Johnson’s division.

  6. Third day of Battle • Day third was on July 3rd 1863. • On day three General Lee ordered an attack by fewer than 15,000 troops on the enemies center at Cemetery Ridge. • The Assault is known as “Pickets Charge”. • The Battle resulted in thousands of Confederates dead and Lee had to withdraw.
