He is anointed by the king-maker Samuel He is anointed by the Spirit in power He slays Goliath He was famous and successful in battle He is promoted by Saul and loved by the king’s family He is faithful and loyal to God and king. David’s circumstances
When there is an inordinate sense of ownership or responsibility to the work a danger signal should be going off in our souls.
David does not have the promised fulfilled, the dream realized, the crown on his head, or any title, position, rank, or recognition, but he still behaves like the king. David’s identity is not located in the external trappings of acclaim, but in the internal reality as expressed in the Spirit’s anointing.

God has not called you to respond to human need. God has called you first to respond to Himself.
Human emotion, agendas, prejudices, fears, drive towards power and the like tend to block out the Holy Spirit’s “signals”.
And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them. Psalm 78.72 Obedient Listening: Checks our Integrity
David left Saul’s court alone – took no one with him. Never spoke a word or lifted a hand against Saul. David did not split the kingdom. Did recruit anyone to his cause. He did not create his own kingdom.

We can become more human We can live in defiance of despair We can learn that obedience is the expression of spiritual courage. Obedient listening transforms pain . . .
