National 1 – 5 Qualification Update • August 2013 – June 2014 • Past paper guidance is now available for most subjects that include a question paper (exam) as part of the National 5 Course assessment • Over 320 Subject CPD events (N3-N5) delivered across Local Authorities and SCIS between Jan – June 2014 • We are continuing to publish subject-specific common questions and answers on the subject pages
August 2013 – June 2014 contd • Common key messages and subject messages published following event verification activity for Round 1 and 2 • Prior verified Assessment materials available to use for some subjects on Secure site • National 1 Units – Phase 3 development published • Implementation of new Awards: • Cycling SCQF Levels 1 and 2 • Scottish Studies Levels 3-5
N2-N5 Revision • Revisions to N2-N5 mandatory documents will be published by end of June – • Course specifications • Unit specifications • Course Assessment Specifications • Centres will receive notification of any changes made to Unit Assessment Support packs. Changes to packs will be updated from June – August
Assessment Support: Higher • SQA published materials valid from August 2014: • Unit Assessment Support Packages for new Higher Courses • First release of coursework information for non-question paper components of the Higher Course Assessment • Specimen question papers with detailed Marking Instructions • Access UASP’s via SQA Co-ordinator • General assessment information • Coursework assessment tasks UASP’s should be held securely and treated as confidential
Updated Mandatory Documents - Higher • In May 2014, further information and clarification made to: • Course Specifications • Unit Specifications • Course Assessment Specifications • We will publish comparison documents that clearly illustrate what changes have been made to the above
Updated Assessment - Higher • Higher Unit Assessment Support packages 1 and 2 updated at the end of May, all contain version control • Centres encouraged to use the most up-to-date versions. However, centres are free to use the existing versions. Both will be accepted for verification purposes • Later in the year, we will publish Past paper guidance for the new Higher Courses • Higher Practice Paper – January 2015
Advanced Higher Timeline • All mandatory documents have been published for Advanced Higher: • Course Specifications • Unit Specifications • Course Assessment Specifications • Advice and guidance on approaches to delivery and assessment have also been published for new Advanced Higher: • Course and Unit Support Notes • UASP’s for new Advanced Higher Courses* will be published from October 2014 – April 2015 *New Advanced Higher operational Aug 2015
Dual – running of National Qualifications • 2014-15: • Final dual running year for Access 2, Access 3, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and the current Higher to run alongside National 2 – new Higher qualifications • 2015-16: • National 2, National 3, National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher • Advanced Higher qualification will not dual run

Product Codes • Reminder - codes for N1 to new Advanced Higher series begins C700. Level codes are 71-77 to allow quick, visual identification of the new courses and to differentiate these from other National Courses

Submitting Data Accurately and On Time • Providing accurate entry information on Course, Units and where appropriate external assessments - level and completion dates must be specified • Late September 2014 - Candidate Entry process opens • Early November 2014 - Closing date for initial entry information* • Mid November - Centres receive: • Eligibility Report and review/take action update candidate data • Sign off Entries Summary Profile Report • Beginning of April 2015- Centres receive updated Entries Summary Profile Report for information only *Majority of entries should be submitted
Unit Results – deadline 23rd May • Accurate result information is required for each unit entry • Unit results should be submitted continually to ensure a regular flow of data • Reports sent to centres to support and help you identify and resolve any missing data: • Incomplete National Course Profiles - unit results not submitted • Eligibility Report - no. of candidates per subject/level who will not achieve an overall course award
Estimates • This Academic Session – • Accurate estimate information is required for each entry - you should submit an estimate grade • Valid Bands 1-9 inclusive of Higher • Estimates required to support the Exceptional Circumstances Consideration Process • Deadline submission date – end of April 2015
2015 Exam Timetable • Will be ‘busiest’ ever with existing Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Higher Courses dual running • 28 examination days will be used in 2015: • Tuesday 28 April – Friday 5 June • Timetable published early June
