Merger • Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. and Hitachi Systems & Services, Ltd (2 group companies that are part of Information & Telecommunication Systems Company) will merge on Oct. 1, 2010 • Purpose of merger is to strengthen marketplace competition by enhancing solutions-providing capabilities- they will do this by harnessing both companies’ management resources

  3. IT market over the years • Over recent years, IT market has changed mostly due to customers accessing online rather than owning own systems. Business globalization is also another dynamic shaping the marketplace. • Because of this, Hitachi introduced an in-house company system and launched the Information & Telecommunication Systems Company (Hitachi Software Engineering, Hitachi Systems & Services, Hitachi Information Systems, Ltd. and Hitachi Electronics Services, Co., Ltd.) • Has been strengthening business framework so they can provide important one-stop services (instead of having to call one number and having to press multiple numbers to get to another service) and to be flexible to the needs of the clients

Pros of merger • Hitachi Software Engineering has received recognition from customers because of their ability to develop large-scale systems and packaged products based on platform technologies • Hitachi Systems & Services has a great amount of experience and expertise in proposal, design, construction of admin. systems for customers • With the merger, it will combine both companies’ strengths, allowing company to have wider range of business know-how and experience in more sectors which will allow more powerful system solutions than before

More Pros of Merger • Hitachi, Ltd. and new company will work together to create large-scale systems, mainly in financial and public sector; will provide very reliable services spanning entire lifecycle of systems • Also aims to offer system integration services that provide detailed response to address customer needs for mid-sized systems (esp. in manufacturing and services sectors) • Both companies’ projects and services platforms will be effectively utilized in Social Innovation Business (key focus of Hitachi group) • Leveraging highly skilled developers of both companies will accelerate development of new products/systems and contribute to expansion of businesses
