  2. Introduction In this PowerPoint I’m going to talk about the Media Sector I would like to do. I'm going to be telling you about the Photography industry. Photography is taking pictures of people, places and events that happen. Once you have the pictures you can find them in magazines, papers and on the internet. We use photographs for peoples personal use for example family photos, to sell and make money and to tell you something like in documentary photography. It is a huge industry and one of the biggest Getty Images make over $807 billion each year.

  3. Job Titles • There are many different jobs in the photography business but some of them are, some people work along or on a contract and some people work part time as a photography assist or full time. Some of the jobs that you could do are : • Sport Photography • Fashion Photographer • Wildlife Photographer • Documentary Photographer • Food Photographer Photographers are used for recording images of events that take place In the World, theses can be from family photos to sporting events that take place.

  4. Sports Photographer • The area of photography that I want to go into is Sport because I find it interesting and I like sport. A lot of Photographers are freelance which means they work for them self and they will only get paid for the ones that are published. These photographers will have to build a good reputation with the news papers and sport magazines In order to get paid. • The other job role you can get is on a contract which means you are working for a club, magazine or paper, this will mean you get paid a salary and worked fixed hours. You would have to be prepared to travel round the country and world. • You would properly start of at a small company then work your way up.

  5. Skills • The skills that you would need to be a sport photographer are : • A passion for the sport • Good eye for the photo to get the action • Knowing the sport • Able to know what's going to happen next • Be quick with the camera, and being patience • Knowing how to use the camera well, knowing what lenses to use what time • Experience. • People/communication skills • These are all job specific skills that would devolve over time.

  6. Skills • These are skills you would need to be a photographer but also in other jobs. • The transferable job skills that you need are : • People skills – getting them to feel comfortable and tell them what to do • Independent skills – being able to work on your own and sticking to times and being where your meant to be • Enjoy Traveling • Being able to drive • Knowing how to use Photoshop • Communication and organisation skills.

  7. How to apply • There are many ways to apply for a job, you would start by looking for job adverts on the internet or in newspapers or photographic journals. When you found the jobs that you wanted to you send a letter to the company. Then you would send a CV or complete a application form. After this you will be asked for an interview in which you would need to take a portfolio of work that you have done. You might be asked for a trial run to see if you fit in with their company. This process is for all jobs and not just sports photography. • Alternatively you could set up a blog which shows your work and helps would build up your reputation as a sports photographer.

  8. Main Roles • To be a sport photographer if you were working freelance you would need to set up your own appointments with your clients, so you would need to be helpful and friendly on the phone, you would also need to manage all your own bookings and be well organised. You would need to be-able to get to your clients on time. You would need to be confident so your clients feel welcome and and so they feel confident so they get the best out of the experience. • To be a photographer you would need to be passionate about it and enjoy what you do, you also need your own equipment and to be-able to promote your own work.

  9. Working Conditions and Environment • Most sports photographers may have their own studio as it would be easier for them to have a photo shot of players or the team/club they work for. Also they spend a lot of them traveling to games and events. Sport Photographers may be under a lot of pressure depending on who they work for and what they. Its stressful job to do because you need to capture that winning shot of the game or a important moment. With his comes responsibility to produce the work to the best that it can be. They may be under a lot of stress to get the work done on a time limit and also to develop the photo.

  10. Salary • The starting salary for a photographer is about £10 per hour, this is normally a 9-5 day unless you are a freelance photographer in which you can work you own hours and negotiate the price .The average wage you would get being a sport photographer is £35,000 a year depending how experienced you are. You can earn from £15,000 to £50,000 or more. You can earn a one off fee for one of your Photos if you happen to be in the right place and the right time.
