  1. Tiger Meet NATO NetherlandsF16 The designated NATO aircraft from each country are often brightly painted with tiger stripes.

  2. The NATO Tiger Association or the Association of Tiger Squadrons was established in 1961. Promoted by French Defence minister Pierre Messmer, its role is to promote solidarity between NATO air forces. It is not, though, part of the formal NATO structure.

  3. The USAFE (United States Air Force Europe) 79th TFS (Tactical Fighter Squadron) took the initiative and on 19 July 1961 they invited No. 74 Squadron RAF and EC 1/12 Squadron of the French Armée de l'air to Woodbridge in England. France was then a full military member of NATO.

  4. As of June 2009, the squadrons included in the Association are 19 full members, 10 honorary members and 3 probationary members, all of which have a tiger as part of its squadron crest. As well as being opportunities for NATO air forces to share ideas and experiences, the ‘Tiger Meets’ are also public relations exercises for NATO.

  18. JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded "Does that include those who are buried here?" DeGaulle did not respond but you could have heard a pin drop.

  22. Turkish Air Force Commander, 192 Filo ‘Kaplan’ celebrated its 100.000th flying hour on April 16, 2010. To mark the occasion a Turkish Airbrush artist Evrim Duyar was asked to paint the tail of an F-104G and an F-16 to decorate the entrance of the Squadron building.

  25. The Silver Tiger Award - The paint schemes have become a major point of competition among the various countries with a prize called the Silver Tiger awarded each year for the best.

  28. The aircraft selected to win the prize for 'the most fancy paint scheme' in 2010 was the highly original Rafale of Escadron de Chasse 05.330 of the French Air Force.
