Kinetic Energy • Energy of motion. • Examples • Wind • Moving Rollercoaster • Rolling Ball • Speeding train • Now you list 3 other examples of Kinetic Energy on your note page
Potential Energy • Stored Energy in an object • Examples of Potential energy • Rock at the top of a ledge • Ball sitting on the ground in a soccer field • Swing at the top of its arch. • Now you list 3 other examples of Potential Energy on your Note Page
Where is the potential energy and where is the kinetic energy located in the picture below?
Forms of Energy • Electrical • Mechanical • Chemical As well as… • Gravitational • Light • Heat We will only be looking at the first three today.
Electrical • The flow of charged particles called ions. (wonder where we have heard that before) • When electrons are flowing through a wire, they are being forced through the electrical field
Mechanical • refer to things like gears, engines, locomotives pulling trains, canon balls flying through the air, or other examples of energy in mechanical devices
Chemical • refers to energy that is stored in molecular bonds, the forces that hold molecules together. • So releasing chemical energy must mean the energy is finally free from its molecular bonds. • Chemical energy is stored (potential) energy until the bonds are broken.
Forces in Nature • Plants growing? • How do plants growing exhibit forms of energy and the forces of physics?
Energy of a Plant • How does a plant using energy to grow? • The plant uses the chemical energy stored in its molecular bonds (chemical bonds) to grow. • The plant uses energy from the environment to help in breaking the bonds of the chemical compounds stored in the plant (photosynthesis).
Physics of Plant Growth • How does a plant use physics to force its way to the surface of the earth? • www.discoveryeducation.com
