VOC emissions not only cause environmental issues but also economic loss. It is known that VOCs contribute to global warming and some VOCs are carcinogenic. The amount of VOCs emitted during loading is about 50~200 tones per vessel. Therefore, techniques for emission reduction are required to relieve global warming and reduce economic loss. VOC Emission Objectives • Theoretical investigation of VOC production mechanisms • Dynamic modeling & analysis with experimental equipments • Experiments and model verification using crude oil • Recommendation of an enhanced dynamic model and VOC reduction equipment Dynamic Modeling and Analysis P&ID and The Experimental Setup Design Specifications • Operating Fluid: Liquid and Vapor (Crude Oil) • Operating Temperature & Pressure 10 ~ 400C and -1~5 Kg/cm2 • Valve used: Ball Valve, Anti-Cavitation Valve, Gate Valve • Tank capacity: 1000 L , Tank Material of Construction: SS400 • Main lines: Pipe 32A and 40A Sch40 • Pump used : Volute Pump EG3/3.7 KW, 220V Ф3 • Program used for Data Acquisition: LabView 8.5 version VOC Generation Observation LabView Interface Conclusions From the study above it is clear that, VOC emission is subjected to two dominant factor, the drop line pressure as well as the agitation effect of the pump and tank. As the drop line pressure is decreased, VOC generation rate is increased and vice versa. Therefore, to minimize the VOC emission rate these two major factors should be taken in account.
