  5. The author may DIRECTLY state a character description, either physical description… “He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf…”

  6. Or personality description. “He was the lawgiver in our family and I never laughed in his presence.”

  7. Or the author might INDIRECTLY give you information about the character through the character’s actions, or..

  8. their thoughts and/or emotions.

  9. Analyzing Character When we analyze character, we look at: • Traits • Motivations • Conflicts • Relationships • Changes they undergo

  10. TRAITS

  11. RESERVED vs. EXTROVERT Reserved means restrained in words and action. A reserved person is an INTROvert (someone turned into themselves and not outwardly social), as opposed to an… EXTROvert, a person who is highly social and is not reserved or turned into themselves.
