  2. Background Info on Cupid • God of Love • Often appeared as a winged infant carrying a bow and sheath arrow • Wounds inspired love or passion in each victim • “Matchmaker” • He is the embodiment of Valentine’s Day • Said to be first in everything

Facts on Cupid • Parents: Aphrodite and Ares • Spouse/ Lover: Psyche • Siblings: Harmonia, Anteros, Himeros, Phobos, Adrestia and Deimos  • Children: Voluptus • Symbols: Bow and Arrows, Candy, Love, Hearts, Kisses, Wings, Blindfold • Power: To cause love • Weakness: Easily falls into other peoples games • Identification: Fair, very handsome • Important Events: Valentine’s Day, caused himself to fall in love with Psyche

Background Info on Psyche • In the beginning was a mortal • Was the most beautiful woman in the world • Was made immortal so that her and Cupid could play together forever • Many treated her like a goddess because of her beauty • She was so beautiful that no one dared to propose to her • Lived in the woods looking for her lover • Never got to see her lover and once she found out that he was a god, she went to the temples and made sacrifices to figure out who he was • Aphrodite spoke up and revealed that Psyche’s lover was no other than her son, Cupid • Turned into the Goddess of Soul

  5. Facts on Psyche • Parents: King • Spouse/ Lover: Cupid • Siblings: Malia and Seren • Children: Voluptus • Symbol: Butterfly • Power: Power of Divine • Weakness: Believed the lies of Aphrodite • Identification: Most beautiful mortal • Important Events: Married Cupid, and became immortal

  6. Background Info on Aphrodite • Goddess of Love and Beauty • Gets jealous of other women • Honored as a goddess of war • One of the major goddesses/gods there is • Big part in the Trojan War • Rather weak and frightful • Widely worshipped as a goddess

Facts on Aphrodite • Parents: Zeus and Dione, but later said to have arisen from sea foam • Spouse: Hephaestus, but Ares was her secret lover • Siblings: Apollo, Ares, Hermes, Dionysus, Athena, and Hephaestus • Children: Cupid, Himeros, Pothos, Phobos, Deimos, Armonia, and the Nymph Rhode • Symbol: Girdle, Seashell, Mirror, Doves • Power: Potent sexual attractiveness, dazzling beauty • Weakness: Conceited • Identification: Most beautiful goddess • Important Events: Wounded by a mortal in the Trojan War, Marriage to Hephaestus

  8. Background Info on The Graces • They were 3: Aglaia (Splendor), Euphrosyne(Mirth), and Thailia (Good Cheer) • Sometimes thought of as a whole instead of separate people

Facts on The Graces • Parents: Zeus and Eurynome • Spouse: Aglaia- Hephaestus • Siblings: Each other • Children: None • Symbol: Triple incarnation of grace and beauty • Power: Good dancers, “Give life its bloom”, bring beauty to the world • Weaknesses: None • Identification: Three goddesses of charm and beauty • Important Events: Gods’ entertainment at banquets

  10. Background Info on Hephaestus • God of Fire • Was ugly and lame • Was cast out of heaven because of his appearance • Also the God of Ceremony • Very kind and peace-loving

Facts on Hephaestus • Parents: Zeus and Hera • Spouse: Aglaia/ Aphrodite • Siblings: Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Hermes, Dionysus and Athena • Children: Cupid, Himeros, Pothos, Phobos, Deimos, Armonia, and the nymph, Rhode • Symbol: Hammer and anvil • Power: Fire and being a great craftsman • Weaknesses: Has to walk with a walker because he broke his legs after being thrown off of Mt. Olympus • Identification: A large, lame, and ugly man carrying a hammer and working on a forge • Important Events: When he was kicked out of Mt. Olympus
