  1. What Causes Tooth Decay? Tooth decay is one of the most common dental problems, yet many people don't know what it is or how to treat it. This article will provide an overview of tooth decay, its causes, and treatment options. Symptoms of tooth decay A number of symptoms can occur, including tooth decay ● Pain when eating or drinking hot, cold or sweet food or drink ● Visible cavities in your teeth ● Black or brown color on your teeth ● Pain when biting teeth ● Gum inflammation and bleeding ● bad breath Dentists and tooth decay

  2. Visit your dental office regularly so that early stages of tooth decay can be treated as soon as possible and tooth decay can begin to be prevented. Cavities are very easy and inexpensive to treat in the early stages. Dentists can usually find cavities and other problems with a simple exam or X-ray. Treatments for tooth decay Just because you have a cavity (or two) doesn't mean you're doomed to a life of dental nightmares! There are several treatment options available to you depending on the severity of the decay. Let's go through them in more detail. Fluoride treatments Fluoride treatments are a type of dental treatment that helps prevent tooth decay. Fluoride is a mineral found in many foods and water supplies that helps keep teeth healthy and strong. Fluoride treatments can be done at a dentist's office or at home, and they can help protect teeth from cavities and other problems. Dental fillings Dental fillings are used to treat tooth decay, which is the breakdown of tooth enamel due to acid. Bacteria in the mouth produce this acid, which causes cavities. Fillings are used to fill cavities and prevent further decay. There are many different types of fillings, including amalgam (silver), composite (tooth-colored), and gold. Dental crowns Dental crowns are a type of tooth restoration that covers the entire tooth surface above the gum line. They are used to treat tooth decay and protect teeth that are prone to decay. Crowns can also be used to improve the appearance of discolored or misshapen teeth. As explained earlier, tooth decay is caused by bacteria that produce acids that destroy tooth enamel. The best way to treat tooth decay is to place a dental crown over the tooth after removing the decay. Root canal therapy A root canal is a type of dental procedure used to treat tooth decay. The procedure involves removing damaged or infected tissue from the tooth and removing the nerve

  3. and blood vessels. Root canals are usually performed by dentists, but can also be performed by oral surgeons. Adults and children can have this procedure and are usually covered by dental insurance. Extractions If the tooth is too badly damaged to be restored, it may need to be removed. Your dentist may replace the tooth with a partial denture, bridge, or implant.
