P4 Development Programmes • Interdisciplinary Project Work Theme : Embracing Diversity Duration : Term 1 Week 3 – Term 2 Week 4 Objectives of Project : • To learn about the different food, culture and attractions at the different ethnic places • To understand the uniqueness of Singapore as a multi-racial society • To design a poster using PowerPoint Programme to promote an ethnic place of interest. Activities : • Classroom discussions • Learning Journey to Kampong Glam/Little India/Chinatown • Presentations in class and during Racial Harmony Day
3. P4 Development Programmes • Leadership Camp P4 pupils will be given an opportunity to go for a 3 days 2 nights camp. Objectives • To promote team spirit and build self-confidence • To provide a platform for the development of students’ leadership skills and social-emotional competencies. Desired Outcomes of the Camp • Students to put into practice the leadership skills and the school values that they acquired during the camp when they are back in school. • Students to be more confident and are able to work better in teams.

What Subject-based Banding means for your child • Every child will be encouraged to do the subjects at the levels that best meet his/her abilities • Removal of streams in Primary 5 and 6
Why introduce Subject-based Banding? We recognise different abilities • To help each student to proceed at a pace that he/she can manage • To provide more flexibility to pupils with strengths and abilities that vary across subjects • To encourage greater interaction among pupils with different strengths
How does Subject-based Banding work? School recommends a subject combination based on P4 examination results. Parents select preferred combination. Pupil takes subject combination chosen by parents.

6. Target Setting • Monitor & review your child’s performance after each assessment • Parents, please help your child to review the targets for each subject with reference to target set for individuals by the school
6. Target Setting • Pupils set targets based on expectations given by the school. Pupil’s Targets for the Year 2013 2013 Overall • Pupils plan how they are going to meet the targets set. • Parents to discuss with the child and comment on how they can help their child.
6. Target Setting • Pupils make a mid-year review in May. • Parents are to discuss with the child on how they can achieve academic excellence.
7. Absence from Assessments • Must be supported by a valid reason such as Medical Leave. Letter of excuse from parents is not acceptable. • Absent without a valid reason – results will be reflected as AB (absent) on the result slip. AB indicates that the child will be getting zero for that paper. • Upon returning from the medical leave, pupils will only be allowed to sit for the make-up assessments on two designated dates. • If the child returns after the designated dates for make-up assessments, it will be reflected as VR (valid reason) on the result slip.

7. Finance • With effect from Jan 2014, the 2nd tier of Misc Fees will be increased from $5.50 to $6.50. 7. School Safety • The school gantry will be closed at 0710 for the morning session to facilitate morning assembly and flag-raising ceremony. • Vehicles are not allowed to be driven into the school compound during both dismissal times. • Please refrain from parking your vehicles outside the school.
7. School Safety • To ensure the safety of your child, all visitors to the school are required to exchange their identification cards for visitor passes before reporting to the General Office. • Exception to the rule only applies during school initiated events/workshops.
7. School Safety • Whenever your child is unable to attend school, parents should call the school at 6793 3419 or sms to 8511 7516 in the following format: [Name;Class;Reason] by 0830 (for a.m. session) and 1430 (for p.m. session) to inform the school of his/her absence.
Parents’ Support Group You are invited to join the PSG as a member to contribute to the development of your child. Application form will be issued to all parents via your child. Please submit to the form teachers by the deadline given.
