What Is NPEC? The National Postsecondary Education Cooperative (NPEC) is a voluntary partnership of postsecondary institutions, associations, government agencies, and organizations. NPEC receives funding from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), U.S. Department of Education.
Mission Statement NPEC's mission is to promote the quality, comparability and utility of postsecondary data and information that support policy development at the federal, state, and institution levels.

Why Student Success? Utility of Current Measures - Adequate? - Comprehensive? How can success be better defined, measured, and communicated? What is success from a student perspective? From an institution perspective?
Why Student Success? Postsecondary Education Context – - Enrollment growth - State funding reductions and Funding Shift to students How can the “public” and “private” good, of success, be communicated?
Why Student Success? Diverse Student Market - Growth underrepresented racial/ethnic minorities, 1st generation students What learning venues offer the most promise for success? What is success for different students? What is success for different institutions?

Student Success Publication What is success? How do you know it when you have/see it? What does it mean to different groups of students? What does it mean to different types of institutions? What can institutions do about it? Perspectives of four authors, including Dr. James Hearn, Vanderbilt University
NPEC/AIR Focused Grants • Created in collaboration with the Association of Institutional Research (AIR) • For 2004, grants will fund research to increase understanding and knowledge of student success • Grants of up to $15,000 for dissertation work and $30,000 for research projects • Awards will be announced soon!
